butterfly tenergy fx zlf

Tenergy 05 fx review Timo Boll ZLF

My impressions are mixed and changing.  The rubber does suit this blade also, possibly better but I am not sold on the idea.  I mean the rubbers seem to fit this blade better but the overall effect of this combination doesn't really feel like I am playing with Tenergy any more.

Throw angle of 05 fx

The first thing I have to talk about is the throw angle because although I played pretty well overall with some great shots,  The lower throw angle and the more bouncy nature of this rubber meant I had a smaller window to land my shots.  The much lower throw angle means I can't do my side spins as much.  I actually cursed a million times because of how many times I looped right into the net.  Tenergy 05 fx is reminding me of Hexer everyday.

Side spin looping with 05 fx

My main reason I love tenergy is because of the super high throw angle which allows sidespin looping.  Once you drop to a low throw angle it is quite hard to side spin as you will hit the net first.  Tenergy 05 fx does not feel good at sidespin looping balls lower than the net, which the original tenergy totally beats it hands down.  Side spin flicking serves near the net also felt much harder as it was hard to lift the ball.

05 fx on forehand looping bottoming out

although I played for almost 6 hours and as I kept playing I got more used to the throw angle and possible less spin, I never really felt happy with the softness especially on my forehand.  On the backhand I seemed ok with it, but on the fh I felt like I was hitting into the blade too early sometimes.

Which blade to use with tenergy 05 fx?

After using it with the TBS yesterday and the Boll ZLF today I felt I wanted it be on an even softer blade.  I just felt the bottoming out meant I wanted a blade that the ball could dig into even more to get the dwell I felt I was starting to lack.
Serves
I started to adjust by the last couple of hours, building more confidence in digging deep and applying full action.  The sidespin and kick beats the orignal 05 for serves which just go over the base line, but on stability of short backspin the softness and the bounciness is a pain in butt.
Amazing after one day that I could change my feelings so much.  In a nut shell what is the main thing I don't like about 05 fx?
STABILITY
I felt the softer bouncier nature, more dynamic, as you hit harder into the rubber the parabola becomes a much straighter line and blocking etc just all felt less stable.
It is early still I will write more tomorrow.  But my impressions is that this rubber is going in the Hexer direction I didn't really like.

butterfly tenergy 05 fx

Nobody cries about the weight of Tenergy any more!

In package 88 grams, out of package full sheet 65 grams, first cut 43 grams.  If you stretch your rubber then I predict 41-2.
My current Timo Boll Spirit blade with two two-year-old tenergy 05 weighs 185 grams.  That is a blade with "shrunken rubbers" as I used to speed glue stretch the hell out of my rubber back then.  So I think it would have been heavier if new.
So now I have stuck on my two new tenergy 05 fx onto my timo boll spirit.  The weight is 180 grams.  It will be a bit lighter soon as I it has a bit of over hang I left.

How does it feel?

The overall set up feels bloody amazing!  It is really feeling perfect.  After using 2 tenergy 05 for a long time and always thinking this is too head heavy I finally can now say this feels bloody perfect.  As a result, when the blade feels all balanced my backhand in particular develops finals flick to all shots that is just right, for lack of better words.
I also gave Bruno, The best player at our club from Chile, who you have probably seen in my youtube videos a go of my bat as he had never heard of tenergy 05 fx.  He was I could see totally in love.  He said "I know tenergy 05 is better than tenergy 64, but I just find tenergy 05 too hard for me.  But this tenergy 05 fx is perfect."  He ran into me later and said again "you have the best bat" .  I got use his tenergy 64s on either side of Jun Mizutani, which did feel excellent, but to be honest couldn't wait to use my bat again.
I played a very good player tonight from England.  I played him last week for many hours and was using the original 05 and his thoughts were that it was a bit slower.  He only managed to get one game off me tonight, where as last week I got a few more.  It could be that my backhand was on fire.

I hate to talk about speed glue feeling but...

I have never felt anything come this close to that.

Spin and speed?

To be honest I don't think tenergy 05 fx is any spinnier than the original.  I actually have feeling that it may even be less spinny.  It is just a small impression right now, but I feel the fx version seems to be moving toward the tenergy clones direction and not chartering even more spin direction I kind of hoped might happen.  I am sure without a doubt that tenergy 05 fx is slower overall.  But Tenergy 05 fx feels more dynamic.  It also seems to have more gears, or is that the same thing?  I find can keep the ball slower for example if they move away from the table.

What does it compare to?

Tenergy 05 fx feels like a cross between tenergy 64 and Andro Hexer and Tenergy 05 of course.  I say that because tenergy 64 was the softest of the family and andro hexer felt the softest and had the porous feel.  Tenergy 05 fx feels similar to the speed or dynamic nature of hexer, but of course tenergy 05 fx has the tenergy top sheet which for me is the main reason I don't like the other companies rubber clones.  The other companies made very good sponges similar to tenergy spring sponge but just didn't put that Butterfly grippy top sheet on top.  Anyway...

Who will love tenergy 05 fx?

Players that liked Hexer or Vega but didn't like the top sheet.  Players who love the tenergy 64 on the backhand but wanted just a bit more spin and little lighter.  Ah dam, I think there are too many types of people who will love tenergy 05 fx more than the original.  I think I will become one of them.

What am I not sure about right now?

I am not too sure about how it plays on my forehand. I am sure I love it on backhand, and the overall weight of a lighter forehand rubber also helps with my backhand.  But I am a little unsure about how it feels on my forehand.  It is like I love that speed glue kind hit into the blade, but something about the softness is not quite right.  It kind of feels a bit slow, or the throw angle is not right?  Anyway I will come back to this.

Tenergy 05 FX throw angle!

I am sure it is lower and shorter.  It has less dwell in my mind so comes of the blade quicker but unless I do a more active stroke I can do very very short loops which I think are weird.  It is like those loops that you do and when they bounce they just stay really really low.  The throw angle in my mind makes this not only better for blocking or should I say being more passive, but also the attacks stay much lower.

Tenergy 05 FX weight is lighter than t05

butterfly Tenergy 05 fx review

I am working on a very long blog entry into my review of Butterfly Tenergy 05 FX which I just got today.  I will keep adding and editing this blog post as I have more ideas.  t blade with two two-year-old tenergy 05 weighs 185 grams.

tenergy 05 fx review by high arc

Impressions after second session:

First of all, the T05 FX will be my new backhand rubber, no doubt. I have not found anything about it on the backhand side which I don't like.

I played for about one hour against a machine, and for about another hour some matches against two different players. I play with both of them quite frequently, one is has quite a bit a lower level (no ranking because only the top 200 or so get a ranking), the other is quite a bit better (current number 15 in Switzerland), and I know their game well. However, the serves of the better player are often loaded with so much spin that I frequently used to make a direct mistake with T05 even if I read the spin correctly just because I misread the amount of spin. My ranking fluctuates in the Swiss top 100, but not below 60.

Playing against the machine (switch between T05 and T05 FX, see picture)

Actually both rubbers have similar characteristics. The FX has just a bit more dwell, and is a bit slower. Some may perhaps find the FX a bit mushy, but I don't, I actually find the T64 more mushy. It is certainly easier to loop bottom spin balls with the T05 FX than with the T05, but for now I can't tell whether this is due to a larger dwell, a smaller sensitivity to incoming spin or a higher throw. I guess it's not the last point because he rubber seems to have a lower throw than the regular T05 in all aspects. When I did some off the table counter looping against the machine (oh I love that so much), I found that there is a upper speed and spin limit of the rubber, which I have never experienced with the normal T05. But the limit is very high so that at my level I don't care.

In the matches, I noticed that I serve better with the FX. I felt more confident to put spin on short serves, because they did not go long as often experienced with the regular T05.

Against the player with a lower level, I performed pretty much the same as I would have with the normal T05. Though some unnecessary errors on first forehand loops due to the higher dwell, but nothing I can't get used to. I really liked how you can do touch shots with the rubber. Managed to do some nice short bottom side spin returns and found it good fun to use the catapult. Had some problems with flicking on the forehand side.

On the other hand I did better against the best player of our club than I ever have. Did less errors in the returns of his serves, where I dared to be more active. I blocked more balls than I usually would have. When he attacks, he always plays the balls there where I don't expect them, and the FX is much more forgiving for these kind of out-of-position blocks.

I don't know whether this is helpful or not...

By the way, I found the Jun Mizutani blade to be a perfect match to the T05 FX's.

I think the T05 FX rubber will be a huge success, because it is similar to the T05, but is not that difficult to handle. I often found the T05 working against me when facing better opponents, and I don't see that coming with the FX. I expect some pro's to use the T05 FX on the backhand, but I can't imagine that many would use it on the forehand, because it lacks the extreme power and top gear of the normal version.

Table Tennis USA Open 2010

The U.S. Open, the oldest table tennis tournament in the United States dating to 1931, offers singles, doubles and mixed doubles divisions competing for prize money.

DeVos Place has over  700 competitors from 16 countries coming to Grand Rapids.  Open from Wednesday through Saturday at DeVos Place.  20 years it hasn't been there.

Consists of nearly 60 age brackets for men and women from ages 8-80 that will involve 89 tables in use at times, with key matches able to seat 1,500 spectators at DeVos Place.

The tournament took place twice in Midland in the early 1990s and for six years in Detroit’s Cobo Hall in the 1960s and 1970s. Grand Rapids secured the event by outbidding Las Vegas and Milwaukee.

Defending U.S. Open champion Thomas Keinath, of Germany, returns to play for another crown, along with 14-year-old Ariel Hsing, of San Francisco, runner-up at the U.S. Nationals the past two years, and U.S. World Team member and 15-year-old Michael Landers (New York), last year’s youngest ever U.S. Nationals champion.

It would be good if the U.S. Open recognized as a major world tournament by the International Table Tennis Federation, which means prize money in the range of $150,000 to $200,000.

Tickets are $5 per day, $25 for all sessions, including the finals. There also is an amateur novice division anyone can enter Saturday. Cost is $30 for adults, $15 for kids.

Stiga table tennis

Stiga Table Tennis

We bought a Stiga ST 275

The finish on the top of the table was not good. The blue paint comes off on the balls. The top side of the table must have be put topside down on a conveyor because you can see where the wood was riding on the chains. I took pictures and asked for another top. They sent one but it wasn't any better than the first and it was a different shade of blue on top of that. I will not buy another Stiga table. It is clear they have no quality control because the paint colors are different. You can tell they don't have a procedures for handling what will be the top side with special care. Also there is no support metal support under the wood long the side that is under the net. It droops a bit. What a piece of ....

Stiga Expert Roller

That sounds like a really bad table however my Stiga Expert Roller table is magic, although I was meant to pay $1100 brand new Australian, it got damaged in tranit so I took pictures and they gave me $300 off the price. The chips were minimal and I just got a phone call from someone today asking if I do table tennis table repairs for pretty much the same reason. Anyway I can say that the Stiga Expert Roller table tennis table is great. (made in Germany)

Stiga Expert Table

Our Noosa club had all Stiga Expert Tables and they were all great for many years BUT ALL had the blue paint come off eventually. We even got a few tables re painted but its an expensive and messy process for everyone. You may see the repainted blue is now coming off everywhere on my table but somehow it doesnt effect the bounce which is amazing. The new ones we got from pink, dont even know what they were but they wernt a known brand, are a significant improvement on the stiga i think. Bigger wheels, more solid and stable mind you, the first batch of whatever they were had to go back as they were all crap, may have been a different manufacturer though i think.

blue paint for stiga ping pong table

Has anyone actually bought blue paint for their Stiga ping pong table? Where can I buy the official blue paint or can it be another colour? Is it just a stiga thing where the paint comes off? Maybe I should just buy a new ping pong table instead...

Table tennis is a competition game of table tennis played at the highest level governed by the body called the ITTF. It has nicknames such as Ping pong, wiff waff and was first played in the 1880s.

It can be played in singles or doubles with mixed genders men and women and its ctegorization is that it is a Racquet sport and indoor.

The equipment is a celluloid, 40 mm ball

Table tennis, also known as ping-pong is a sport in which two or four players hit a lightweight hollow ball back with snowshoes. The game is played on a hard table divided by a net. In addition to the initial service, the players must allow a ball played towards them only one bounce on their side of the table and must return to jump on the opposite side. This game can be played indoors or outdoors. Points are scored when a player does not return the ball within the rules. The game is fast and demands quick reactions. A skilled player can make several varieties of spin to the ball, changing its course and limit the options of the opponent to his advantage. tTennis is the racket sport more popular around the world, with more than 300 million active organs in the world. The game is controlled by the Federation International Table Tennis (ITTF), founded in 1926.

aussie table tennis

Aussie Table Tennis William Henzell tenergy 05

I will be writing here a very indepth review of my match against William Henzell on the 15th of May 2010 at the Brisbane Table Tennis Association at the Brisbane open.  Iin short,  in Australia the man that represents Aussie table tennis the best is the Aussie William Henzell.  He is an amazing table tennis player.  It doesn't matter what table tennis equipment William Henzell uses, he will still be the best Aussie table tennis player.  To quote my good mate, Ping Pong Rob from Mytabletennis.net (my favourite forum) "He could beat you with his shoe."

William Henzell equipment

William Henzell's table tennis blade is made by Yasaka from what I saw (but I heard that may be a Butterfly Timo Boll Spirit with the handle changed.)  William Henzell rubbers are Butterfly Tenergy 05 forehand and Butterfly Tenergy 05 backhand.
William Henzell is very secretive about which table tennis equipment he uses because he promotes aussietabletennis the table tennis company.  William Henzell does not use Xiom Vega Pro as he recently claimed on the Aussie table tennis website.  It is merely marketing.  Xiom Vega pro is still a good table tennis product, but it just goes to show that the professionals will refuse to use Xiom Vega Pro even when it is free.  Table Tennis professionals would rather pay to use the best quality product on the table tennis market.

William Henzell and the Table Tennis Ranking system used in Australia.

In Australia we use ratingscentral.com for our rating system.  On this system at the date of the match, his ranking was about 2850 and mine was about 1650.  That is about 1200 points of difference.  You can get a good idea of our table tennis levels of ranking from this.  My average game score against him was 3:11.  He appeared to play as good as he could against every player on the day.  I estimate my ability to be about a third of his and think the whole rankings and ratings reflect this perfectly.

You both played close the the table

At the end of BH warm up you can see Henzell trying to get extra spin by rolling his wrist over the ball to take advantage of extra contact or dwell time.
I noticed that Henzell's serves were just a little faster but more importantly Henzell would try to attack many of Boz's serves with top spin from just his wrist when the ball is over the table. Boz just pushes the Henzell's serves back without as much speed or spin. Just look at the difference in wrist motion between the two players.

William Henzell serves and flicks

His serves were 99% slow, very short, curvy sometimes more back or more top mixed with tons of sidespin positioned to awkward spots all the time.
I wanted to open it up but there was just either to hard to open or when I did his counter especially his backhand side was so ridiculously fast and spinny and well placed.

Nice job, Boz!

You played well against Henzell, imo. He dominated in the areas you would expect a player of his level to. and you did well when you managed to get him to play "honest" for your abilities. You did as well against Henzell as I do against state level players here in the States. Kudos Boz, you rock! Thanks for sharing.

Just some tips. You seem to

Just some tips. You seem to be reaching for the ball at some points meaning that you need to work on your foot work and ultimately improving your conditioning/finesse. Bend your knees more as it will help with your stance and positioning, otherwise moving will be more of a chore. Your returns are waaaay too high and you seem to pop it up giving him the perfect opportunity to attack. Also watch the ball as I see you miss quite a few shots. There's this weird thing you do at 3:08 that's just an example of how out of position you are. You're also blocking easy high shots that you should attack and take advantage of. That's how you lost that game at 3:30. Your backhand opening loop is good but your serves aren't very spinny and are sorta high and slow... Hope you take my criticism constructively. Cheers!

still chuckling

i think boz would benefit from hearing readers feedback about his playing style and we are fortunate to see australias best play one of qld's best so we all know how far we are behind these guys. im having a bit of a giggle as this is like comparing me to boz lol. sometimes you think you are playing bad but your opponent is actually controlling how well you can play through his style of play and with someone as good as henzell i can only imagine how hard it would be to win a point. hanks for sharing boz...cant wait to have a look at the video points though!
ok had a look at those points...to funny although we would probably all do that and more often i imagine against crap players let alone stars!
its so easy to look like an amateur against a international player in any sport...your lucky to have had the opportunity to even play him boz i reckon

Jordan Romero could climb Everest you could beat anyone!

Boz you can do anything just as Jordan Romero is the youngest person (only 13 years old) to climb the biggest mountain in the world. Your dreams have come true. In a conversation before leaving for Tibet, Jordan Romero explained that his aim was to motivate other youth to practice sports and avoid being overweight. “I also make this a little for me to do something big.” In Everest he underwent a special training plan. “I am still exercising, concentrating and doing resistance training,” said the young mountaineer, who has been asleep for a month in a tent that simulates high altitude to prepare his lungs for the next "impossible adventure. Jordan loves “adrenaline". Keep fighting

butterfly tenergy 05 table tennis rubbers

top table tennis players using tenergy 05 on both sides of their blade

top table tennis players using tenergy 05 on both sides of their blade are not hard to find.  There is a lot of talk of the importance to use two different rubbers on your blade.   Variety of spin and speed patterns stuffs up your opponents timing.  To you it is natural as you always know the right way to either side.  But to your opponent they have to constantly think if you have something different.
Although this is true what happens when you find the same rubber unbeatable by any other product on either side?
That is where this group find themselves with 05 both sides of their paddle.

There really are so many aren't there?

I wonder if it is actually 50%, what do you think?

can't wait for this place to go crazy when fx comes out

I wonder if anyone of those guys will be using fx

should i use tenergy 05

I imagine many players will switch to the tenergy 05 fx and I think most table tennis players that don't train more than once a week should use the fx version of tenergy 05 when it comes out.
