Tenergy 05 vs tenergy 64 | Table Tennis

Butterfly Tenergy 05 versus tenergy 64

Tenergy 05 vs Tenergy 64 is probably the most searched after query related to looking for your next table tennis rubber.  Review about speed, feeling, durability and weight are very useful when you need to choose if you should use tenergy 64 or tenergy 05 or even use both.  If you choose both then most people would agree tenergy 05 is your forehand and tenergy 64 is you backhand.

Tenergy 05 vs tenergy 64 review

After using both of these together for about 500 hours of play I feel I know the differences intuitively.  To review these tenergy versions you must forget what all the 1 day reviewers tell you.  The idea of speed is quite complex.

Tenergy 05 vs 64 rubber speed

The differences in speed a really quite similar and the concept of tenergy 64 being faster than tenergy 05 is quite simplistic although generally true.  Tenergy 64 plays fast with punch more catapult and punch close to the table and away from the table.  But Tenergy 05 plays more consistantly with a much bigger window.  The speed window means you can put speed on almost every shot without worrying whether it will land on the table or not.  When Tenergy 05 is driven with full forehand power it is in my opinion just as fast as tenergy 64.  The catapulty higher speed of tenergy 64 is related to the quicker bouncier feeling.

Tenergy 05 vs tenergy 64 feeling

Because the pips of tenergy 64 are set out with more space between them, it means you will feel the ball hit the blade more, hit it harder and leave the blade quicker than the denser dispersion of pimples in tenergy 05.  Both these Tenergy rubbers feel the ball almost never slips in horizontal looping.  But the longer dwell time gives the tenergy 05 the feeling you can spin almost anything.  The tenergy 64 often has a bit too much speed and catapult.

Tenergy 05 vs tenergy 64 durability

Now that you know that tenergy 64 is much bouncier, because of less pimples, because you smash or punch more into the blade there will be more damage to any softer rubber.  I have noticed and many others have reported the same thing to me, that Butterfly tenergy 05 becomes very similar to tenergy 64 after a few months.  Where as tenergy 64 for the players who love it, they say that their t64 plays so magically in the first month and then tends to lose a lot of its intitial bounce and feeling.  It is pretty easy to imagine that the tenergy 64 has less supporting posts or pillars making it more fragile like a bridge with less posts.  The topsheet quality does not seem any different in either of the tenergy sheets.

Tenergy 05 vs tenergy 64 weight

The weight of tenergy 05 is obviously a couple of grams heavier because it has more pips.   Making tenergy 64 the better choice for people who look for the lightest possible set up.

I will write more about this topic shortly, especially if anyone posts comments on specifics they would like me to answer about.
